Suitcase Stories: The Luggage of Legends began with a simple idea: that an old vintage suitcase, the kind found tucked away in the garage or picked up second hand holds more than just space for belongings. It holds journeys. Departures and arrivals. The chapters we close and the ones we're brave enough to open.

That idea became an invitation: a call out to artists across Christchurch, asking them via social media to take a vintage suitcase and transform it into a work of art....their work of art. No two stories the same. No two suitcases the same.

Why journeys?

The theme of journeys sits at the very heart of this event, and for me it is personal. This is a cause I carry with me, through my own journey with a head injury and the loss of my younger brother. It's shaped how I think about the things we carry, the paths we're forced onto, and the people who help us find our way through them.

What we've built together...

What started as a concept and many months of planing has grown into a full community event, with the support of artists, and two charity partners we are incredibly proud to stand behind: Koru Care Christchurch and Hospice.

Along the way:

• Artists have each transformed a vintage suitcase into original artwork.
• Every suitcase is sold as part of a blind sale.  The Artists identity stays anonymous until the reveal event, so buyers are backing the cause and the mystery as much as the art.
• Each suitcase sold includes one complimentary ticket to The Runway Reveal — a ticketed weekend finale where every suitcase is unveiled for the first time.
• The runway itself will be styled by past recipients of Koru Care Christchurch as models, wearing collections pulled together from Hospice stores and their own wardrobes, folding the charities' own work directly into the celebration.
• Media interest has grown alongside the event, with coverage secured across radio, television and print.
• With proceeds, after running costs, going to Koru Care Christchurch and Hospice.
